Pastoral Care
One of the reasons we are such a happy, secure community is because the staff are so close to the students. Teachers are not just available when they are on duty; they are likely to come down and watch TV with you when they are not. Because they want to spend time with you (as opposed to doing it because it is their job) you will find that most of our students and staff build up strong relationships. You can talk to them whenever you need to about anything at all.
Boarding staff and their families ensure that the atmosphere is just like being part of an extended family and boarders soon feel at home. There are always special evening meals and events taking place in all of the Houses which always brings everyone together. Once a term each House takes it in turn in hosting a theme evening where everyone attends in fancy dress and the meal and entertainments are in keeping with the theme. Recent themes have included Top of the Pops, The Wild Wild West and A Space Odyssey. The social highlight of the year remains, however, the Boars Head Feast. This magnificent tradition is hugely popular and enjoyed by pupils and staff.
Induction Weekend
To ensure that you settle in quickly the Schools runs an Induction Weekend before the start of the Autumn Term to help you familiarise yourself with other boarders, the School, the staff and the area. The weekend is always full of trips and activities to ensure that you have a great time.
Matron
Each House has a Matron who not only looks after you in terms of medical matters and your laundry but also provides a sympathetic ear and his or her room is always a welcoming place.
House Prefect
All Sixth Formers in house are considered boarding prefects. House Prefects are given the opportunity to develop skills as leaders and provide role models for the younger pupils.
The Chaplain
The School Chaplin leads worship at the weekly Sunday Boarders Service. She also makes regular visits to each of the Houses so that you can have informal and private conversations with her if you need to.
Communication with Parents
We will also stay in regular contact with your parents. We send them a letter and emails every term to review what has been happening and tell them about individual and house successes.
There are computers in house to email parents and telephone points to keep in regular contact. There is also a House phone to enable parent to ring the Housemaster\mistress at any time.
The Medical Centre
There is a Medical Centre which is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week in case you are ill or need to chat to a School Nurse or Doctor. |
