‘Healthy Body, Healthy Mind’

Academic PE

Pupils are able to study GCSE Physical Education (Edexcel) in Years 10 and 11. This course is a combination of theory (40%) and practical (60%). As well as performing and analysing practical activities, the course teaches the relationship between factors affecting participation and performance. Why people get involved in sport and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. How the body works in exercise and through training programmes can be improved.

Results 2006 - 100% A or B

In the Lower and Upper Sixth, AS and A2 Physical Education (OCR) is offered. The course is designed to develop knowledge and skills in select areas, explore contemporary sociological issues in modern sport, examine the effects of exercise and the relationship between training and performance, the importance of sports psychology, compare and contrast sport in different cultures and finally improve individual performance.

Results 2006 - 50% A (87% A and B)

Both these courses have proved to be very popular with the pupils at Ashville College.
